“Lying Down with God”
Nightfall has a way of telling the truth. When the noise fades and the lights go dim, the heart speaks louder. Worries surface. Regrets replay. Tomorrow’s unknowns knock at the door of the mind. This is why betime is not just a physical moment, it is a spiritual one.
Scripture often connects sleep with trust.
“I will both lay down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.” – Psalm 4:8 (KJV)
David did not say I will sleep because everything is resolved. He said I will sleep because the Lord is faithful.
Sleep is an act of surrender. When you lay down, you are confessing something powerful: God will still be God while I am unconscious. The world does not rest on your shoulders, it rests in His hands.
Jesus Himself modeled this trust. In the midst of storms, opposition, and looming suffering, He Slept (Mark 4:38). Not because of danger was absent, but because fear did not rule Him. The Father did.
Before bed, the enemy loves to rehearse failures and whisper accusations. But the Lord invites us to remember mercy.
“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning.” – Lamentations 3:22-23 (KJV)
Notice, new every morning. That means tonight is not for fixing everything. Tonight is for resting in grace. Tomorrow carries fresh mercy.
So lay down your burdens. Release unfinished conversations, unanswered prayers, and unresolved questions. God does His best work while His children sleep.
“So he giveth his beloved sleep.” – Psalm 127:2 (KJV)
Let that be your confidence tonight.
Sleep is not weakness.
Rest is not retreat.
It is trust.
